A couple more clubs have registered their interest in a player from Wolves who recently stated that he really liked working under Gary O’Neil.
There are still around four weeks to go until the transfer window closes and Wolves have only sold one player so far.
But that is expected to change this month.
Daniel Podence could be departing with Olympiacos keen to re-sign him after his loan spell last season. Goncalo Guedes could also be on his way despite his unlikely involvement in pre-season.
Speculation continues to swirl around Pedro Neto, with several top clubs keen.
Another player who might yet leave Molineux in the coming weeks is Chiquinho, who returned this summer after a loan spell with Farmalicao – and interest in him seems to be hotting up.
Gaziantep and Mallorca in talks with Wolves over Chiquinho
It has been reported by Record that Turkish club Gaziantep F.K. and Spanish outfit Mallorca have both now come to the table for Chiquinho.
The two clubs are both in contact with Wolves regarding a potential deal. Gaziantep are reported to have seen one bid rejected.
This claim follows reports that Sporting CP are also keen on Chiquinho. The Portuguese champions are looking to strengthen as they seek to defend their title in 2024/25.
O’Neil was always going to take a look at Chiquinho in pre-season before making any decision.
The 24-year-old got a decent level of involvement in Marbella and in Miami. He caught the eye on both trips, with journalist Nathan Judah reporting last month he had looked ‘absolute class’ in training.
He made some comments recently, suggesting he would be happy to stick around. He told the E&S: “I want to help the team. This team and the gaffer will help me to improve my football, so if the gaffer wants me here I will be really happy here and to help my teammates.”
Chiquinho – who is thought to be valued at around £8.5 million by Wolves – did say in that interview that he had not discussed his future with the manager.
Many Wolves fans would love Chiquinho to stay
Chiquinho is not short of suitors at the moment, and it seems there is a reasonable chance he could be moving on.
But many Wolves fans will take heart from what he said recently, and he has also looked promising in pre-season.
One more pre-season friendly remains for Wolves – against Rayo Vallecano this weekend, and you would imagine Chiquinho – dubbed ‘a young, exciting and talented player’ by then-technical director Scott Sellars when he first signed – will get some more minutes, barring any transfer breakthroughs.
It would be great to see him in the squad for 2024/25.
He was very unfortunate to suffer that horrendous knee injury after such a positive end to the 2021/22 season, so for him to get a chance from O’Neil to prove himself would be fantastic.
