A football team and its followers have been paying respects following the unexpected passing of a fan and father of three from Doncaster.

Ashley Mitchell, 54, passed away “very unexpectedly” on June 25 at the age of 54. Mitchell was an avid fan of National League North team Scunthorpe United.

Next week is when his funeral is scheduled to occur.

“Scunthorpe United is saddened to learn of the passing of supporter Ashley Mitchell,” the club said in a brief statement.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at Woodlands Chapel in Scunthorpe at 12:40 p.m., followed by a private interment. His family has asked us to share the details of the service.

“Everyone at the club is thinking of Ashley and sending her family and friends their condolences.”

“Son of the late Lesley and David, loving dad to Jack, Hollie, and Matthew, step-dad to Holly, cherished partner to Angela, loyal brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend to many,” read his obituary. It also stated that donations to the British Heart Foundation or floral tributes are welcome.
