Tiger Woods has ruled himself out of the running to skipper the 2025 United States Ryder Cup team with an announcement of the new captain to be made on Tuesday.
With Bethpage Black scheduled for September 26–28, 2025, Woods, 48, was heavily favored to captain the US Ryder Cup for the first time in his career.
That being said, the 15-time major champion is said to have’rejected an offer’ to lead the US team in its attempt to wrest the Ryder Cup back from Europe in New York.
It is believed that Woods works on the PGA Tour’s ongoing partnership with the Saudi Public Investment Fund, LIV Golf’s bankrollers, for a significant portion of his time off the course.
January 2025 marks the start of his new TGL with Rory McIlroy, which will likewise demand a significant amount of his time.
Due to surgery on his ankle last season, the former World No. 1 has only participated in four tournaments this season.
Woods has acknowledged that he finds it difficult to walk all 72 holes, despite his claim that he can still play every shot.
After withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational, he went on to place 60th individually at The Masters.
After that, Woods failed to make the cut in the US Open and US PGA.
In two weeks, he will next take the field in the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon.
The PGA of America in New York on Tuesday, July 9, will make an official announcement regarding Woods’ decision to decline the 2025 US Ryder Cup captaincy, opening the door for several other candidates. Europe has already confirmed that Luke Donald will captain the team again at Bethpage Black.
