£5million Leeds United agreement would have major impact on these two world-class players

Leeds United are said to be in advanced talks to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara for £5million this week, and his arrival would have a major impact on two players at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds are going to be aiming for promotion from the Championship this season, but they face a very challenging division in the second tier following relegation.

Their attempts to clinch promotion will require new signings in a host of areas, and the midfield looks to be adequately stocked if Leeds get their latest target.

Football Insider reported this week that the Whites are in advanced talks to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara for £5million.

Here, we look at one winner and one loser at Leeds if they are to sign Kamara soon…

A double-pivot of Ethan Ampadu and Kamara would be one of the strongest setups in the division, providing us great balance going both ways.

The energy with these two would give very strong protection to the back four, especially from Ampadu, while also having the quality in ball progression to supply the attackers.

Mainly, Kamara would be a player to receive on the turn from the back four to advance play through the middle of the park, and that would be a boost for Ampadu, knowing the onus isn’t solely on him.

We know already from pre-season that Ampadu is more than competent in possession to find these spaces to move the ball, but having Kamara helps a great deal, especially with ball carrying.

Adding another midfielder is vital to our depth for the long season ahead, but it does beg the question of what happens to Lewis Bate.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with Oxford United and demonstrated some quality that would be worth adding to the current squad, but he was always going to be a squad player at the most.

Kamara coming in means there are at least four midfielders in front of him when everyone is fit – Ampadu, Tyler Adams, Kamara, and Darko Gyabi.

Being fifth choice won’t bring on Bate any more, and you have to wonder whether a loan makes sense, given Archie Gray can step in now too.
