‘HE’S RATED’: STUART BROAD THINKS CHELSEA STAR’S EXIT WILL SEE TOTTENHAM SIGN SPEEDSTER
The England cricket legend, who retired from the game this summer, is a boyhood Nottingham Forest fan and he was doing punditry work for Sky on Wednesday.
The Ashes hero was asked about Forest possibly signing Callum Hudson-Odoi, and whilst he is excited about that possible transfer, he also thinks that Brennan Johnson will head to Tottenham, as a result, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (30/08/23 at 7:25 pm).
It needs to be noted that nothing is done yet, but Spurs are pushing for Johnson to join before Friday’s cut-off point, with Arsenal being backed to hijack a deal for the speedster.
Nonetheless, if Johnson moves to Hotspur Way, then it means Hudson-Odoi will secure a permanent move to the City Ground, with Paul Merson backing the deal.
Nonetheless, this is what Broad had to say about Johnson and Hudson-Odoi ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline day.
On if he would be happy with Hudson-Odoi deal: “I think so,” said Broad.
“But it probably means a replacement for Brennan Johnson, who has been heavily linked to go into Spurs for £50 million. He is an academy player, so that helps with Financial Fair play for the club.
“I think Hudson-Odoi has worked with Steve Cooper before in the England set-up at a young age. Coops has been amazing at growing players and getting the best out of them. Gibbs-White is probably the biggest example.
“But Hudson-Odoi came with a great rep three or four years ago. He probably hasn’t been heard or spoken about during the last 3-4 years. Coming to a place like Forest, where he will get opportunities and the City Ground will lift him. I think he signed a big contract at Chelsea before he has been sent out on loan, so he has been rated at certain times.”
Chaotic few days ahead
That Friday cut-off point is edging ever closer and teams are going to be throwing everything at doing as many deals as possible.
You would expect Forest, Chelsea and Spurs all to be busy, with the trio starting the new Premier League campaign in a positive fashion, with a few bumps along the way.
Of course, these teams had all summer to get their business completed, but these same people who moan at the window still being open when the new season has kicked off are still doing business right now.
