As the Green Bay Packers prepare for roster cutdown day, their impressive roster of young talent makes them a prime target for other teams seeking to make improvements. With such depth, particularly in positions with surplus players, it’s expected that general manager Brian Gutekunst will field numerous trade offers. Instead of risking some players being picked up by teams with higher waiver priorities, the Packers might opt to trade certain individuals for valuable returns.

One key position where trades could occur is running back. Currently, the Packers have more running backs than spots available on the 53-man roster. While it’s feasible to retain four running backs, the team has already invested heavily in the position. They secured Josh Jacobs with a significant contract and managed to re-sign AJ Dillon, who has shown promise this offseason. Additionally, they drafted MarShawn Lloyd from USC in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, further intensifying the competition.

In this crowded field, Emanuel Wilson stands out as a potential trade candidate. Wilson showcased his skills in the Packers’ recent game against the Denver Broncos, demonstrating his capabilities as both a runner and receiver. His performance last season as an undrafted free agent also made a positive impression. Given his talent and the running back needs of other NFL teams, Wilson could attract interest, particularly from teams like the Dallas Cowboys, who might be willing to trade a late-round pick for him.

By considering trades for players like Wilson, the Packers could ensure they receive value rather than risking their release and potential waiver claims by other teams. This strategic approach could provide Green Bay with additional assets while addressing their roster needs effectively.
