Leeds United have their tails up ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Hull City. Despite all the off-field issues, Leeds have only lost one Championship game and with a win at the KCOM, could go as high as fifth.
Willy Gnonto has stayed, and every signing made by Daniel Farke and the club in the summer has so far – worked. Ethan Ampadu, Joel Piroe and Joe Rodon have starred for us. Sam Byram has surprised many.
Djed Spence is a blow but is still seen as a very good signing – while Glen Kamara, Ilia Gruev, Karl Darlow and Jaidon Anthony are yet to play enough, but again, seem like brilliant new signings at Elland Road.
Everything is starting to fall into place. The feel-good factor is in place – along with the best summer addition of them all, in manager Farke. For Southampton, it has been the opposite in the last few weeks.
A solid start – 10 points from a possible 12. But it has since been followed by three straight losses – the loss of James Ward-Prowse impacting Russell Martin’s side. A 5-0 loss to Sunderland, 4-1 to Leicester.
Then on Tuesday night, a third loss in a row – at home, to Ipswich. So, if you were a player that perhaps, had the choice to join Southampton or Leeds in the summer – you might start feeling a bit of regret.
Ryan Manning could regret move to Southampton over Leeds
Ryan Manning joined the Saints from Swansea on a free after a wonderful 2022-23 season in which he won his side’s Player of the Season award. Manning had a hand in 15 goals during 46 games last term.
Available for nothing, Phil Hay said Leeds were considering the Ireland defender. But, he chose to move to Southampton and reunite with Russell Martin. Now, might he have wished he chose to join Leeds?
It is obviously, still very early. But there is a bad feeling at Southampton after three successive losses, and Leeds are going the other way. As time goes on, Manning may regret turning down a move to Leeds.
