Chelsea have reignited their interest in Amadou Onana.

That’s according to the Evening Standard, who have reported that the Blues see the midfielder as a potential replacement for Conor Gallagher.

Chelsea have already long been chasing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, however it is looking increasingly likely that the Ecuadorian will remain on the south coast this summer.

Meanwhile, there have been a number of clubs targeting Gallagher and it has been suggested that he could leave Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea’s midfield options potentially dwindling, the report claims that they will look to sign two new midfielders – with Onana on the shortlist.

The Belgian had been rumoured to be open to a move away from Goodison Park earlier in the transfer window, with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham interested.

Talk of his potential exit had cooled recently, but he now appears to be back on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar.

The Toffees would reportedly demand around £55 million to part ways with Onana, who only joined the club from Lille last summer.

Amadou Onana could prove to be a bargain for Chelsea

Amadou Onana could be the £55m bargain in the Premier League midfield arms race

Chelsea’s pursuit of Amadou Onana could quickly escalate once they realise that he is most likely one of their cheapest options in the transfer market.

The London outfit had already seen an £80 million bid rejected for Moises Caicedo and would have to fork out over £100m for lure him to Stamford Bridge, while there appears to be very few midfielders that don’t cost an arm and a leg these days.

While Onana’s valuation so far seems to have deterred interested parties, he could prove to be one of their cheaper options and would well grow into his price tag given his age.

Replacing the Belgian would be more of an ask for Everton, who were lacking any real excitement in their midfield before Onana arrived.
